The following letter to the editor was published in yesterday's Courier-Post. I found the letter amusing because it's the first time I've seen Bishop Galante used as an example when criticizing someone else. Anyway, here's the text of the letter:
I question the choice of picking Wendell Pritchett to the post of chancellor of Rutgers University-Camden. He is a Philadelphian who has ties to the University of Pennsylvania.
What incentives would he have of creating a bigger, better and more attractive campus at Rutgers? Why couldn't they find someone from Rutgers-New Brunswick, Princeton or some other fine New Jersey university? You can take a man out of Philadelphia, but you can't take Philadelphia out of the man. Look at the bishop of Camden, another Philadelphian.
Look at how he is tearing down all the hard work the previous bishops have done to build up the Camden Diocese. He is closing half the churches and schools.
Yet in the Philadelphia Diocese, where a good deal of the population has left the city, I haven't heard of any massive closing of churches and schools.
You can take a man out of Philly, but you can't take the love of Philly out of the man.
