I'm told surveyors were working at the St. Gregory's property this morning!!! Fascinating how quickly things can happen when $10 million is involved.
What I cannot help but wonder though is how this is possible. The church property is supposed to go to the new parish once it is created. Since the new parish hasn't been created yet, it can have no trustees to approve a sale of property. That means that either the Bishop is acting beyond the scope of his authority (which would not be surprising) or the church is being sold by St. Gregory's parish, which would almost certainly involve a breach of fiduciary duty to the parishioners of St. Gregory.
That this is apparently being done while an appeal of the merger is still pending before the Congregation of the Clergy is also alarming.
