May 21st Rally: Brief Update and a Direct Address to the Bishop

The rally today was well-attended. I did not do a head count but we do have an attendance list that's probably more or less accurate. We may have left out 5-10 people, and as a total guesstimate I'd assume 50 people were there. As I neglected to bring my camera this morning, I need people to send me photos. I'd be interested in people's comments about the rally, but I was impressed by the number of people able to come out on a weekday AM.

I am very sorry to report that Bishop Galante snuck in a back door. I guess he doesn't have the nerve to face us. As the current leader of the Diocese of Camden, the least he can do is offer us a gesture of blessing and an explanation as to why he intends to close historic churches founded by our ancestors, churches that do not belong to him. To the best of my knowledge, he has not answered one single letter of one member of the faithful yet, so addressing us would be the courageous and honest thing to do. We may not agree with what he has to say, but at least the bishop could say something. But instead of standing up like a man that is supposed to be a spiritual leader, he sneaks in a back door like he's ashamed and has got something to hide. Well you know what? He clearly does have something to hide. The man needs our prayers. Storm heaven for the sake of his soul and the sake of the diocese. The harm the bishop is causing could be irreparable to many souls, his own included. We all need to repent of error. Not one of us is an exception to this.

Bishop, do you know how many souls these erroneous decisions could cost? As a spiritual leader, you are responsible for souls. Driving priests from the diocese creates the priest shortage you have anticipated. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. As for the consequences of these decisions--those who will no longer be able to attend church (such as the elderly) and those who become disgusted by the closing of their churches for the sake of greed and God only knows what reason, you will have to answer for them. You will have to answer for the closing of churches at the throne of God.
It is a mistake.

**********************************************

There will be a RALLY/PICKETING EVENT on WEDNESDAY MAY 21 from 9:00-10:15 AM at the St. Pius X Spiritual Life Center, located at 1840 Peter Cheesman Rd, Blackwood, NJ 08012.

This rally is in protest of the closing of our churches! The diocesan plan is a sociological experiment not rooted in God and intended for profit. Whose profit? Certainly not ours!!!

Bishop Galante will be meeting with the Diocese Finance Council and we should be able to freely express our concerns and frustrations with the decision to merge and close currently existing vibrant and dynamic parishes! Please spread the word! We need maximum participation--and we know this is hard since it's a workday morning for most people--to clearly  send a signal to the bishop and his advisers that they have made incorrect and grave decisions that should be reconsidered now before permanent damage is undertaken.

Make your voice heard now before it's too late!

Please RSVP to Kevin so he can reach you if needed (if you don't have time at this late date, fine, just show up): 856-694-2748.

Here's a link to the google map of the location:

I was also disappointed to hear that the Secretary told you that the Bishop wasn't there. It's a sad day in the Diocese of Camden when our very Bishop condones dishonesty. He really needs prayer!!

Why Save St. Mary's?

What's true for OL Queen of Peace, Pitman & Assumption, Wildwood Crest is also true for St. Mary's Malaga:

"The people in Pitman bought that ground and built that church and it belongs to them. You can't just take it away."

-Anthony Mecca, Queen of Peace Parish, Pitman (also on the slate for closure), May 8, 2008

"This is God's house. Let us live here with God as we've done all these years."

-Fred Spiewak, Assumption Parish, Wildwood Crest, June 11, 2008
